In what appears to be a looming showdown within the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria (PDP), its national chairman Mr. Ali Modu Sheriff who was recently alleged to be the founder of Boko Haram has threatened to deal decisively with Femi Fani Kayode stating that he will not go scot free.
It should be recalled that the recent rise of Ali Modu Sheriff as the party's chairman has elicited much negative reaction from party members, Nigerians and the international media. In a recent interview aired by Channels television, Femi Fani Kayode alleged publicly that the now embattled national chairman, Mr. Ali Modu Sheriff is the founder of Boko Haram and as
such cannot represent the PDP as its chairman. Shortly after, the CNN in a news telecast ridiculed Nigeria and the PDP by labeling the emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff, the founder of the dreaded Boko Haram as PDP chairman.
Meanwhile, Fani Kayode has expressed his readiness for a showdown with the national chairman, Mr. Ali Modu Sheriff whose emergence as PDP chairman in his view is unacceptable because Ali Sheriff is divisive and has come to divide Nigeria and the PDP.
While the last of this evolving situation is yet to be seen, it is nauseating to live with the idea that a major political party in Nigeria is being chaired by a man alleged to be the founder of one of the deadliest terrorists groups in the world. Correctly or incorrectly, it is essential for the Nigerian security apparatus to start acting to substantiate this allegation or debunk it.
